In the front garden of the Casuarina Cabins is part of the capstan (turn-table) which, powered by horses, used to draw a punt across the river. Information on Nelson, VIC
Located a couple of Kms from the South Australian border on the mouth of the Glenelg River. A township of approx 350 popular for holiday makers and fishing.
"Nelson is a quaint fishing town on the Glenelg River at the river's entrance to the southern ocean, and well liked by fishermen who try their luck up along the upper reaches of the river, or down in the lagoon by the entrance. A well supplied general store provides most of the needs of the locals day to day, and of course Portland and Mount Gambier cities are not far away. The sheltered boat ramps in the river adjacent to the local pub, make for an idyllic fishing trip destination." - Gary Pope
