Rivendell is situated on the outskirts of the delightful town of Geraldine, New Zealand (which is only a two hour drive from Christchurch, as well as being on the Central South Island Tourist route for people travelling on to Mt Cook or the lakes and Queenstown) in a secluded spot with beautiful gardens ,just as with Tolkien's Rivendell in the Lord of the Rings. We offer you a peaceful and tranquill stay with the chance to unwind and relax without the crowds that you find in other tourist towns. You can take the time to wander our property and meet our animals, visit some of the local attractions such as the local cafe scene, golf courses, historical cinemas and jam and cheesemaking factories, or just sit back and be pampered while reclining uninterrupted in our picturesque gardens.

70 acre farm for sheep and dairy grazing, also beef cattle. The large (6500 square ft) historic home was built in 1910 and is set in a large country garden with woodland area. The spacious guest rooms are warm and comfortable and retain much of their original character. Ken (a farmer) and Elizabeth (former dietitian) are experienced farmstay hosts who enjoy meeting people and entertaining. Their other interests include gardening, travel, antiques, spinning, skiing, cooking, music and flying. Both have their pilot's licence. Their daughter Amanda is usually at home during university holidays. There are several cats which come inside the house.
