The Governors Bay Hotel was first established in 1870 as The Ocean View Family Hotel. Through the 1990s the hotel fell into disrepair and became known as the Smugglers Arms. In 2000 it was fully renovated and renamed as the Governors Bay Hotel and still retains many of its original features. Fantastic views out to Quail Island and Lyttelton Harbour await you from the garden Bar, restaurant, verandah and rooms of the Governors Bay Hotel. There are great walks to be had along the shoreline, cycling trips, public gardens and many water based activities within minutes of the Hotel. More importantly, we guarantee, professional and friendly service, great coffee, good food, the best of local wines and cool beer when you venture into the Governors Bay Hotel. The hotel is only 20 minutes by car from Cathedral Square, Christchurch via Dyers Pass Road or 30 minutes via the Lyttelton road tunnel. We are open seven days throughout the year for lunch and dinner from 10am.
